![]() The Encyclopedia of World Military Aircraft |
This
encyclopedia is a very comprehensive resource on most of the operational
military aircraft types in service as of the late 1990's. Most of the
content is based on material previously published in the prestigious World
Air Power Journal. The photographs and color-profiles are really
top-notch; and the data is fairly accurate. The encyclopedia claims to
give full information on all operators of a given type; I found this to be
rather inaccurate. Still, it is a terrific resource to have if you have to
now what a Su-22M looks like or what the dimensions of an F-111 is. I can
not really emphasize how beautiful the photos and the color profiles
are-It definitely is worth the price for all aviation enthusiasts.

Though by no means complete, this book, whose contents first appeared in the British weekly Illustrated Encyclopedia of Aircraft in the '80s, is a very useful addition to my bookshelf. It does share an unfortunate trait with the original version: the coverage tends to get less complete toward the end of the alphabet. Even with its omissions, I don't know of any other one-volume references covering all aircraft types, and at the price, it is unbeatable. |

From
School Library Journal Gr 7 Up The title ``encyclopedia'' suggests a definitive, comprehensive work; however, this is not the case. It is difficult, to say the least, to examine and document the aircraft of today in 188 pages. More appropriately, Aircraft Encyclopedia is an excellent guide, a valuable introductory source. The book is organized into four chapters: rise of aviation, military aircraft, civilian aircraft, and a reference section (glossary, index, abbreviations, record breakers, museums in Europe and the U.S.). There is an abundance of colorful illustrations, each accompanied by a brief description of the aircraft. The pictures and diagrams certainly elucidate the text. This entertaining study will be enjoyed by aviation enthusiasts of all ages. L. R. Little, Houston Secondary School, B.C., Canada |

![]() The Encyclopedia of Modern Warplanes: The Development and Specifications of All Active Military Aircraft $18.98 |
This
is a fantastic reference book and I would stack it against any other in
it's price range. I really like all the development information that the
author provides in this work. For most of the aircraft, this book follows
the entire lineage and gives you the major operators. The only problem
that I have is that there are a number of major aircraft that are missing
in this book (KC-10, E-6, Sea King). If you are looking for a great
general reference book this is definitely it. If you are expecting an all
inclusive catalog of current military hardware, you might be better of
looking in the Jane's books. But at this price... u will never find
anything better. BOTTOM LINE: Critics aside, this book is ***** i.e. five star! |
![]() The International Directory of Military Aircraft $18.95 |
Though a humble attempt to meet the subject, this book isn't what we call a five star rated book. Neither does it hold a good rank... |
![]() New Illustrated Encyclopedia of Aircraft: Military and Civil Aviation from the Beginnings to the Present $23.74 |
The A to Z arrangement of this valuable reference book provides details of almost 1500 manufacturers and is designed to give the general reader a wide acquaintanceship with thousands of different types of aircraft and at the same time serve the more knowledgeable expert with easily accessible information. |

splendid encyclopedia presents all the planes that waged deadly battle in
the skies during World War II. Through a combination of large-size

plane's specifications, speed, size, history, and the clashes in which it
participated. The
comprehensive and international coverage extends from the awe-inspiring

![]() Encyclopedia of Russian Aircraft |
This
book is an exhaustive attempt to catalog all aircraft designed and flown
in Pre-Revolution, Soviet and modern Russia. It is remarkable that the
author was able to unearth so much information. There are in fact so many
aircraft mentioned and shown that the text is written in an abbreviated
format to prevent the book from being too big to pick up. All in all a
thorough and enjoyable reference book.

$37.95
Soviet Combat Aircraft of the Second World War, Vol. 1 $37.95 |
This is the first of a two-volume set detailing Soviet WWII combat aircraft, both prototype and operational. Arranged by manufacturer, entries describe products of famous designers as well as lesser known names, drawing on Russian primary sources including manufacturers, flight test establishments, and Soviet air force and naval aviation operational records. These sources have produced a wealth of new material, much of which re-writes previously held Western views. An introduction sets out the unique nature of Soviet aviation in terms of research and development, aircraft production, and combat tactics. Includes some 360 b&w historical photos of airplanes, many never published in the West, plus 28 multi-view plans and 17 color drawings. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com) |
$4.98Attack and Interceptor Jets $4.98 |
Firstly, this is not an
ENCYCLOPEDIA on world military aircraft. It only covers the
fighter/strike/interceptor planes (not helicopters and transports) and
nearly all of them. Michael Sharpe did a great job on this book. It covers every jet from the 1st (Me262) to the F-22 Raptor. It even has the XB-70 Valkyrie and the loser to the Raptor the YF-23A. If you like jets you should get this book. Its small size limits the pictures to a single side view unfortunately. Would love to have had top views also, thus only four stars given. But the number of planes covered is unbeatable for this price. RATING: * * * * |
